Out of marshmallows? No problem! Try these marshmallow fluff rice krispie treats instead! They have the same sweet flavor but are much softer and less sticky.

Rice crispy treats with marshmallow cream are delicious! They're a bit different than regular rice krispie treats. They're light and airy, rather than sticky and chewy. I can't get enough of them!
They're a perfect treat for those with braces, dentures, or sensitive teeth. Or those who crave cereal treats, but don't have any marshmallows on hand.
I'm proud to admit I always have a tub of marshmallow fluff in my pantry! Once you try the magical bliss that is marshmallow buttercream, it's hard not to.
Rice krispie treats with marshmallow cream do fall apart easier than regular rice krispie treats. It makes sense, since marshmallow cream isn't solid at room temperature. It's also what gives them a lighter and less sticky texture.
Ingredients
- Unsalted Butter - For ooey, gooey treats! Use real butter for best results.
- Marshmallow Fluff - This recipe is specifically made with marshmallow fluff instead of marshmallows. Marshmallow fluff doesn't solidify like marshmallows do, so the end result is a much softer, less sticky treat. This is great for people with braces or dentures!
- Rice Krispies - Use whichever brand you like! There are gluten-free brands to choose from if you're gluten intolerant.
How to Make Rice Krispie Treats with Fluff
Prepare your pan. Spray an 8-inch by 8-inch square pan with nonstick cooking spray. Cut a long piece of parchment paper slightly less wide than the pan so it will fit into the bottom of it. Let the excess hang off the sides as shown in this picture.
Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-low heat. Use a larger pot than you think you need. It's better if its too big than too small!
Add the marshmallow cream to the pot. Use a spatula to stir it into the butter until nice and smooth.
Remove the pot from the heat, then add the rice krispies to it. Use a spatula to stir the marshmallow mixture into the rice krispies until well incorporated.
Transfer the rice krispie mixture into the prepared pan. Lightly spray your spatula with nonstick spray, then use it to press the mixture evenly into the pan.
Refrigerate the rice krispie treats with marshmallow cream for at least 45 minutes, or let it set up at room temperature for at least two hours. Use the parchment paper overhang to remove the rice krispie treats from the pan. Slice into nine squares.
Top with fun rainbow sprinkles and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Use fresh ingredients! This may sound funny in a recipe with marshmallows and cereal, but trust me on this one, stale cereal makes stale rice crispy treats.
- If you want the rice krispie treats to hold together more, feel free to add marshmallows! Add 5 cups of mini marshmallows to the fluff and up the rice krispies to 8 cups.
- Nonstick cooking spray is your friend. The mixture is sticky when it comes out of the pan. Spray your spatula (or even your hands) with a little nonstick cooking spray and your sticking problem is over!
- Lining your pan with parchment paper makes removal a breeze! The parchment overhang serve as handles so you can remove the whole thing from the pan at once.
- Once the marshmallow fluff is combined with the butter, take the pan off the heat! The mixture doesn't need to cook. It just needs to be melted, and stirred together.
Storage Tips
- We never seem to have leftover rice krispie treats, but if you do store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe container separated by wax paper.
FAQs
Yes! Marshmallow cream is a great substitute for marshmallows in rice krispie treats, but keep in mind the texture will differ. Marshmallow fluff rice krispies aren't sticky and fall apart easier. This is great for people who can't eat very chewy or sticky treats, like those who have braces or dentures.
Marshmallow fluff or marshmallow cream is a spread that tastes just like marshmallows! It is soft and spreadable at room temperature, instead of solid like regular marshmallows. It's typically made of sugar, corn syrup, and egg whites.
