Strawberry and Mint Fruit Salad
I love a good fruit salad because it's so versatile. You can mix and match different fruits, flavors, and textures to create something unique every time.
One night, my husband put together this simple strawberry and mint fruit salad to serve with dinner. It was so fresh and delicious that I immediately knew it was a recipe worth sharing!
There’s something about the combination of grapes, strawberries, and blueberries that works perfectly together!
(If you LOVE fruit salads as much as I do, try this watermelon fruit salad, peach blueberry fruit salad, or my summer fruit salsa!
Key Ingredients
- Strawberries - This salad tastes good all year but especially when it's berry season! Look for deep red strawberries that are ripe yet firm.
- Grapes - Be sure to use small or standard-sized grapes for this recipe. Since the grapes aren’t sliced, smaller ones are easier to eat and pair better with the strawberries and blueberries.
- Blueberries - I prefer firm, slightly tart blueberries in this salad, but you can use whatever blueberries you enjoy most. The main thing is to check that they're fresh and don't have any signs of mold.
- Lemon - I always spring for a fresh lemon! Avoid bottled lemon juice. It doesn't taste nearly as good.
- Sugar - You don't need much, but a little bit of sugar enhances all the flavors of the berries and draws out their juices.
- Mint - Mint and berries are a match made in heaven. We grow it in our garden and my son eats it straight from the plant!
Instructions
Since this fruit salad uses just three fruits, prep is a breeze! Here's how to put it together:
- Quarter the strawberries and chop the mint. It's best to wash the strawberries first to remove dirt and pesticides.
- Add the blueberries and grapes to the strawberries. Make sure the fruit is firm and crisp! Nobody likes a mushy fruit salad!
- Add the lemon juice, sugar, and mint to the berries. Stir to coat, then let the mixture sit. The sugar will dissolve and draw the juices out of the strawberries.
- Serve immediately for the best taste and texture. The berries are freshest and most enjoyable before they begin to soften.
Variations
- Fruit - It's hard to go wrong with strawberry fruit salad! You could swap the grapes and blueberries for blackberries, watermelon, raspberries, halved cherries, or peaches.
- Herb - I'm a huge fan of mint with fruit, but basil or cilantro would be delicious too!
- Sweetener - If you prefer a natural sweetener, you can use honey, maple syrup, or light agave!
Storage
- I think fruit salad tastes best the day it's made, when the fruit is at its freshest and most crisp.
- You can refrigerate it for up to a day and still get great results, but beyond that it will start to soften, especially because berries are so delicate.
