This peach basil syrup tastes delicious in iced tea, lemonade, iced lattes, homemade sodas, and more! It's a great way to use sweet, juicy peaches all season long.
Peach Simple Syrup:
The sun is out and summer's here! Which means it's peach-season! I live for nectarously sweet, juicy peaches. It's SO exciting when they hit grocery store shelves.
Last week I ordered a peach basil latte at a local coffee shop. I loved it so much, I went home and made my own syrup.
I'm thrilled to say, with a little bit of tweaking, this peach simple syrup is perfect! It's positively peachy! You can omit the basil if you're not an herb fan.
Key Ingredients:
- Peach nectar - The first time I made the syrup I used a 1 to 1 ratio of water and sugar with the peaches, but it didn't taste peachy enough. Peach nectar makes this syrup perfectly peachy!
- Peaches - Look for ripe, sweet peaches for the best results.
- Sugar - Peach nectar already contains a lot of added sugar, so you don't need a ton. A third cup worked great.
- Basil - You can omit the basil if you don't like an herby flavor. It's fairly subtle and not in your face.
How to Make Peach Syrup:
This peach syrup is a summer breeze to make! Here's what you need to know:
- Combine ingredients: Throw everything in a saucepan. The peaches don't need to look pretty. They're going to breakdown anyways.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a gentle boil. Let the mixture cook for 10 minutes. I used a spatula to mash the peaches a bit.
- Let it cool: Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes. This gives the basil longer to infuse into the syrup and allows the mixture to cool some.
- Strain: Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to strain. Push all the pulp with a spatula into the sieve to get as much juice through as possible.
- Store: Pour the syrup into a jar with a lid and store in the fridge.
Storage:
- Store the syrup in a jar with a lid or a sealed container for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
- This recipe makes approximately 8 ounces of peach syrup.
Ways to Use Peach Syrup:
Now for the fun part! All the ways you can use this peachy syrup!
- Lattes - It may seem strange, but this peach syrup is delightful in an iced latte! I use a tablespoon for a subtly sweet peach latte.
- Iced tea - Make peach iced tea! Sweeten your iced tea with it, then add fresh sliced peaches if desired.
- Lemonade - Peach lemonade! Yes, please!
- Homemade flavored soda - We call them "special drinks" around our house. It's just soda water, juice, herbs, or other flavorings!
- Cocktails - Add a hint of peach to your Moscow Mule or Tom Collins. Peach syrup makes a killer cocktail!
Do I have to use basil?
Nope! You can just leave it out, or you can add it halfway through the simmering process for a subtle flavor. It's entirely up to you!
